The Army's Equipment

Did either of the two armies have better equipment than the other? For instance, when the weather started to become very cold and rainy, did the Union better protect themselves from the elements of winter? In World War II I remember reading that the American soldiers would steal the jackets and boots of the German soldiers because they were better insulated.

I don't think either side had better weapons, but the north definitely had more weapons and were able to produce weapons much faster than the south. As far as clothing is concerned, I'm sure the south was better off during the winter since they had more money and plenty of cotton to make coats.
