turning point

for what reasons was the south unable to achieve any significant victory following their win at Chickamauga Creek? Was it a shot to Lee's confidence and realization that his army could be beaten following Gettysburg or the failure to replace veteren soldiers lost at places like Gettysburg, Vicksburg and Chattanooga or other possible factors? Was their defeat only a matter of time at that point in the war?

The Army's Equipment

Did either of the two armies have better equipment than the other? For instance, when the weather started to become very cold and rainy, did the Union better protect themselves from the elements of winter? In World War II I remember reading that the American soldiers would steal the jackets and boots of the German soldiers because they were better insulated.

McClellan

How come General McClellan wasn't relieved sooner than he was? He failed to act on numerous occasions when he should of attacked the Rebels. Also many believed him to be a Confederate sympathizer. Why wasn't he replaced sooner?

Habeas Corpus

Habeas Corpus is the a way for prisoners to seek release from captivity when they have been wrongfully imprisoned. It does not guarantee the prisoner freedom, but is a petition and the first step to being released when wrongfully incarcerated.

Habeous Corpus

I'm a little confused about the significance of Habeous Corpus and why when Licoln passed a law to suspend it it was so contraversial.
